Seattle based air-framer Boeing is on track to open it’s new Sheffield facility in 2018, Boeings first dedicated manufacturing facility in Europe.

Boeing Sheffield will manufacture spur gears, shafts and housings with materials that are also sourced in the UK.

The result of a £20m investment, the facility will support global growth for the world’s largest aerospace company and give Boeing access to the UK’s highly skilled manufacturing workforce.

Initially, around 30 people will be employed at the site including 18 apprentices.

Parts made at the site will be used on Boeing’s  737 & 737 Max range as well as the 777 aircraft.

“We are proud to expand our relationship with the U.K. still further with Boeing Sheffield. Our decision to start manufacturing high-value components in the U.K. is a step-change in our engagement and a further example of Boeing’s commitment to grow here, supporting the U.K.’s long-term prosperity”

Located at the Sheffield Business Park, The proposed 6,200-square-metre Boeing Sheffield facility site sits alongside The University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing (AMRC), a world-class machining and materials research campus founded in 2001 by Boeing and the University of Sheffield.

The Boeing company is currently worth around £2.1bn to the UK aerospace industry and supports over 16,000 jobs.
