Avolon delivers first of 20 Airbus A330neo aircraft to Malaysia Aviation Group

Dublin-based leasing specialist Avolon has delivered the first of 20 Airbus A330neo’s to Malaysia Aviation Group, the parent of Malaysia Airlines.

The placement of aircraft by Avolon includes 10 aircraft directly from Avolon’s order book with the OEM, Airbus, as well as 10 aircraft via sale and leaseback to the group in order to support Malaysia’s fleet renewal and expansion strategy.

The A330neo, whose wings are made in Broughton, North Wales, can operate flights up to 7,200 nautical miles in range while offering a 25% reduction in fuel burn compared to the classic A330.

It is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines which can run of a 50% blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Andy Cronin, Avolon CEO, commented: “We are proud to have partnered with MAG on a complex and unique transaction. It was made possible due to the deep and long-standing relationships Avolon has with Airbus and Rolls-Royce, all collaborating to provide the optimal solution for MAG with the A330neo. With global supply of widebody aircraft extremely limited these aircraft are a core element of MAG’s fleet renewal strategy, allowing them to capitalise on the continuing recovery in the Asian aviation market.”

The delivery brings the total number of A330neos owned by Avolon, which was the launch customer for the type, to 29 whilst a further 46 are on order with Airbus.
