Air India Express flight from Dubai crash lands at Calicut

An Air India Express flight from Dubai skidded off the end of the runway and crashed after landing at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, India.

According to local reports the aircraft, a Boeing 737, was carrying 191 passengers.

An image (shown above) widely shared on social media by twitter user @santhusarling shows the aircraft in several pieces with emergency services attending.

16 people, including the Captian, are believed to have been killed in the accident with dozens more injured.

The incident happened around 7:40pm local time during a storm.

Calicut airport is located on a plateau with steep banks surrounding the runway.

The flight, AXB1344, was bringing Indians back from Dubai under the countries coronavirus repatriation scheme.
