AAIB sending team to Glider accident in Monmouthshire

The Air Accident Investigations Branch (AAIB) has said it is sending a team to the scene of an accident involving a Glider in Monmouthshire.

It is understood that the Glider flipped over during take-off and the pilot, the sole occupant, received serious injuries but according to Gwent Police, these are not life-threatening.

The accident occurred at South Wales Gliding Club which is based at an airfield in Gwernesney, near Usk.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police told us: “At approximately 12.45pm on Saturday 27th July, Gwent Police were called to a report of an incident involving a light aircraft at the South Wales Gliding Club at Gwernesney, near Usk.

“Officers alongside ambulance and fire services attended the scene where it was reported that a glider had failed to launch at the airfield.

“The pilot sustained serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. He has been taken to Morriston hospital.
