The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has confirmed it is sending a team to Scotland after a Helicopter was forced to ditch into a Loch.
The Eurocopter AS350 Ecureil helicopter, operated by PDG Aviation Services, came down south of the town of Lochmaddy in the Western Isles just after 10 am this morning.
It is understood that the pilot is the only person onboard the aircraft but this has not been confirmed. There is no word concerning the status of any casualties.
Police Scotland confirmed it was at the scene saying “Police Scotland and other emergency services are currently in attendance at an incident involving a light aircraft on North Uist.
“Police were informed of the incident at approximately 10:15 am this morning (Wednesday 13th June) and remain at the scene responding to the matter.
“As a result of the incident, the A867 is closed between Lochmaddy and Clachan Na Luib. The diversion is via the A865, and motorists are advised to drive with care. Please note that this road is not suitable for larger vehicles.”
Flights from Benbecula Airport in the Western Isles are being affected by the incident. For further information, passengers should contact Loganair.
